DAS devices are more expensive than networked storage for data however they offer more access to data and greater local backup capabilities.

Data storage that is network-based is performed on servers connected to a network. This typically happens in a datacenter. This type of storage allows for more information sharing, and offers better redundancy and disaster protection than DAS. It can be more affordable depending on the chosen storage solution. Common solutions include network-attached storage (NAS) storage area networks (SAN) and object storage platforms.
